Die Modalverben "können" und "müssen"

Learn how to express ability and necessity using the modal verbs können and müssen, and master sentence structure.

Modal verbs modify the main action of the sentence. They express ability, obligation, or necessity.

Conjugation of "können" (can)

ich kann (I can)
du kannst (you can)
er/sie/es kann (he/she/it can)
wir können (we can)
ihr könnt (you all can)
sie/Sie können (they/you can)

Conjugation of "müssen" (must)

ich muss (I must)
du musst (you must)
er/sie/es muss (he/she/it must)
wir müssen (we must)
ihr müsst (you all must)
sie/Sie müssen (they/you must)

Example Contexts

Ich kann gut Deutsch sprechen. (I can speak German well.)
