Learn to connect actions using infinitive clauses.

Infinitiv mit "zu" & "um ... zu"

1. "um ... zu" (in order to)

Used to express a purpose or goal. The subjects in both clauses must be the same.

Ich lerne Deutsch, um in Deutschland zu arbeiten.

2. Infinitiv mit "zu"

Used after certain verbs or adjectives when the subjects are the same.

Ich habe vor, am Wochenende zu lernen.
Es ist wichtig, viel Wasser zu trinken.
Tipp : Separable Verbs
  • If the verb is separable, the "zu" goes between the prefix and the stem: einzukaufen, aufzuräumen.
