Das Plusquamperfekt
Express actions that happened before other past actions.
Das Plusquamperfekt (Past Perfect)
When you are talking about the past and want to say that something happened even earlier, you use the Plusquamperfekt.
1. Structure
war/hatte + Partizip II (at the end of the sentence)
• Ich hatte meine Hausaufgaben gemacht.
2. Used with "nachdem"
It is very commonly used with the subjunction nachdem (after).
• Nachdem ich gegessen hatte, bin ich ins Kino gegangen.
(First I ate, then I went to the cinema.)
