Relativsätze

Provide additional information about a noun using relative clauses.

Relativsätze (Relative Clauses)

Relative clauses give more information about a noun without starting a new sentence. They are subordinate clauses, so the verb goes to the end.

1. Relative Pronouns (Nominative & Accusative)

The relative pronoun matches the gender and number of the noun it refers to, but its case depends on its role in the relative clause.

Nominativ: der, die, das, die (Pl.)
Akkusativ: den, die, das, die (Pl.)

2. Examples

Das ist der Mann, der in Berlin wohnt. (Nominativ - the man lives)
Das ist der Mann, den ich gestern gesehen habe. (Akkusativ - I saw the man)
Das ist das Auto, das mir gefällt.
