Vor- und Nachteile abwägen (Weighing Pros and Cons)

Wenn man über ein Thema diskutiert, gibt es meistens positive Seiten (Vorteile) und negative Seiten (Nachteile). Um eine gute Diskussion zu führen, muss man beide Seiten betrachten.

1. Vorteile nennen (Stating pros)

• Ein großer Vorteil ist, dass... (A big advantage is that...)

• Für [Thema] spricht, dass... (An argument in favor of [topic] is that...)

• Positiv ist auch zu bewerten, dass... (It is also to be evaluated positively that...)

• Ein weiteres Pro-Argument ist... (Another pro argument is...)

2. Nachteile nennen (Stating cons)

• Ein großer Nachteil ist, dass... (A big disadvantage is that...)

• Gegen [Thema] spricht, dass... (An argument against [topic] is that...)

• Negativ ist, dass... (A negative aspect is that...)

• Man darf auch nicht vergessen, dass... (One must also not forget that...)

3. Argumente vergleichen und abwägen (Comparing and weighing)

• Wenn man die Vor- und Nachteile vergleicht, sieht man, dass... (If you compare the pros and cons, you see that...)

• Alles in allem überwiegen die Vorteile/Nachteile. (All in all, the pros/cons outweigh.)

• Trotz der Nachteile denke ich, dass... (Despite the disadvantages, I think that...)

Grammatik-Fokus: Zweiteilige Konnektoren

Um Argumente elegant gegenüberzustellen, benutzt man auf dem B1-Niveau oft zweiteilige Konnektoren:

1. einerseits ... andererseits (on the one hand ... on the other hand)

Damit drückt man einen Gegensatz oder einen Widerspruch aus.

• Beispiel: Einerseits ist das Leben in der Stadt sehr teuer, andererseits gibt es dort viele Arbeitsplätze.

(Achtung: Nach "einerseits" und "andererseits" steht direkt das Verb!)

2. zwar ... aber (admittedly ... but)

Damit gibt man einen Nachteil zu, betont aber danach einen stärkeren Vorteil.

• Beispiel: Die Wohnung ist zwar klein, aber sie hat einen schönen Balkon.

But a big disadvantage is the lot of traffic and the constant noise.

Einerseits ist die Stadt laut, andererseits hat man kurze Wege zur Arbeit.

On the one hand the city is loud, on the other hand one has short commutes to work.

Das Leben auf dem Land ist zwar ruhiger, aber man ist absolut abhängig vom Auto.

Life in the countryside is admittedly quieter, but one is absolutely dependent on the car.

Wenn man die Vor- und Nachteile vergleicht, hängt die Entscheidung von der persönlichen Situation ab.
